primapeache asked:

I love all things historical and my dream job would be to work with a museum, auction house, antique store, etc to handle the precious objects that come through.
Is Anthropology an ideal major?
Art History?
Classics?
Thank you :)

I have inherited more antique furniture than I can use. I want to put some into a high quality consignment store or antiques auction that will allow a reserve. Haven’t found much on the internet. Looking for references in Dallas area.

Yes, I have tried Craig’s List and eBAY.

Auction or estate sale? What’s the best way to sell off furniture and antiques?

Saturday, July 5th, 2008

December asked:

We’re downsizing and need to get rid of some furniture and assorted antiques. Has anyone out there had experience dealing with auction houses or estate sale dealers?

Should we send the stuff to an auction house(some of the pieces are large)? Have an on-site auction? Have an estate-type sale? We’re trying to decide which way to go.

Thanks for your help!

I do not wish for an appraiser. I simply wish to find out what I have. I have identified art work with the help of art finders, so I am sure that there are antique enthusiast that can help.

Thanks in advance

Barb asked:

I have an old dresser, probably from the 30’s, that I want to do some decorative painting on. I’m planning to use regular acrylic paints. Do I need to sand the spots I’ll be painting and prime them in any way, or can I just paint directly over the old stain and varnish? What kind of sealer should I use on the whole piece when I’m done? I’d like to avoid stripping the whole piece, I like the color and the way it looks, I just want to add to it.

How To: Haggling At Antiques Shop?

SweetPea asked:

I’m redecorating my apartment and am shopping for new (new to me anyways) furniture.

At an antiques shop how do I haggle?
How much lower than the listed price should I go?
How do I make myself sound assertive and confident?
I’ll be shopping at Asian Antique stores (where they usually get the items directly from China). So going to an auction is out of the question.

Molly asked:

I have small antiques (children’s spoons) and I have large antiques (dining table/4 chairs). I have NO idea how to find the value, nor do I know how to unload them. I know eBay is an option for the small things, but what about the large pieces? I need help! Thanks.
