Anyone know anything about old or rare books?
blackmaggiedog asked:
Any book collectors out there? I have an almost complete set of the first english edition of Tolstoy’s War and Peace. These books were published in 1886 by Gottsberger. There are 6 books in the set, and I bought 4 of them at a book sale a few years ago. I’ve seen the whole set on sale at auction sites for thousands of dollars, and I was wondering if a partial set would be worth anything. Thanks in advance for any help.

Contact Bauman Rare Books. They have a website. They will be able to answer your questions. Maybe someone is seeking a certain volume to complete a set. Pax - C

If your books are a first edition then even a part set would have some value. But to be sure log onto E-bay antique section, and type in your question. Good Luck!

Yes, it’s worth about a third of the full set, depending on the condition. They are not very rare as individuals ($50-150 each) but sets are very rare in good condition. Your partial is worth $500-1200, depending on condition. But only if you can find a buyer! Most collectors would not buy a partial set. I wouldn’t.
